‘Working Successfully with your Governing Body’ session

The ‘Working Successfully with your Governing Body’ event took place on 13th January 2016 at Beswick Library. Ariana Yakas, Chair of Kingsway Community Trust and NLG, gave some valuable insight through her experience as a chair working with her headteacher and the rest of the governing body. Sam Offord, Headteacher at Birchfield’s Primary School and also Branch Secretary of the NAHT, shared some personal accounts of working with her governing body as well as some examples of unsuccessful working and how to avoid getting to that situation. John McNerney, Headteacher at St Peter’s RC High School, shared information about how he works with the governing body including committee set-up and what to include in headteacher reports and Ruth Bradbury, Manchester City Council School Governance Unit Lead, signposted the headteachers to the wealth of useful information and resources available to governing bodies. Although the group was small, some great conversation and practice sharing came out of the session.
