The Manchester Schools’ Alliance (MSA), Manchester Governors’ Association (MGA) and Manchester City Council are continuing to work in partnership to bring a range of events and an annual conference to the City for governors. The programme aims to provide Manchester governors with the opportunity to share best practice, understand local priorities and be supported in their role. The following sessions are available for governors of Manchester schools that are a member of the MSA.

Safeguarding

Monday 5th December, 6-8pm, Benchill Community Centre, M22 8EJ

This session will be led by the Manchester City Council Safeguarding Lead and will examine the responsibilities that governors have with respect to safeguarding, including the Prevent Duty. Governors will have the chance to share and discuss approaches. Places are limited to 30.

Manchester Governors’ Annual Conference

Saturday 11th February 2017, 9am-2pm, Woodhouse Park Lifestyle Centre, M22 1QW

Anne Casey, Deputy Regional Schools Commissioner, is coming to Manchester to talk to governors about the current education landscape. There will be an opportunity for discussion and Q & A following the presentation.

Anne will be followed by John Edwards, Manchester City Council Director for Education & Skills, who will talk about what this all means for Manchester. There will also be time for discussion and Q & A with John.

Places are limited so please book early. Places are limited to 100 with a maximum of two places for each governing body to enable representation from as many GBs as possible.

Pupil Premium ‘Gov Meet’

Monday 20th March 2017, 6-9pm, Chancellors Hotel, M14 6ZT

This ‘Gov Meet’ will provide governors with an opportunity to share their successes and challenges about how pupil premium is being used to increase attainment and how impact is being measured.

New Governors ‘Gov Meet’

Tuesday 25th April 2017, 6-8pm, Irish Heritage Centre, M8 0RY

This session is aimed at governors who have been in position for 6-18 months. Governors will be able to share their experiences with each other and have the opportunity to raise questions with experienced governors.

Governor Forum

Thursday 18th May 2017, 6-8pm, Hough End Centre, M21 7SX

This session will be facilitated by National Leaders of Governance. The session will provide governors with a chance to discuss and debate key themes and share best practice. The theme will be in response to current key issues and will be publicised nearer the time.

High Needs Funding Changes

Wednesday 14th June 2017, 6-8pm, Chancellors, M14 6ZT

This session will be led by the Manchester City Council Education Finance Team and SEND Lead. It will examine the changes and the new funding formula that the government is going to use to allocate High Needs Funding to Local Authorities. High Needs Funding is provided to support children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities with an Education, Health and Care Plan/SEN Statement who are in a mainstream or special school. Places are limited to 40.
